I did the Newport Marathon. I parked in my usual spot near Rugby Road / Eton Road and walked over the footbridge to bag drop etc.
Ran easily for 14 miles or so at 08:40 pace which was faster than I had anticipated. Then it started to get a little bit harder. I was running with a group of Langport Runners to around 21 miles. They were on course for 3:45. I caught up with Jan Francis at this point but not long after she powered past me. On Straits Lane I started to get cramps. Rachel Jayne and Louise were on Straits Lane, their support helped. As did seeing Bethan at the 18.5 water station. Prior to that Nick Davies and John Hill were at 7 and 14.5. Chris Davies was at Pye Corner. Janine & Dan were at the Transporter Bridge. Howard was at the SDR Bridge. I knew I had 18 minutes to do 1.5 miles. I needed it.
So I achieved my target of sub 4 hours. I hope my time of 3:57:52 will be good enough to get me into London. I know that with a good winters training plus a good summer to come I will be able to do a higher mileage schedule and reap the benefit.
